Fortunately, there is something you can do about viruses as well as spyware. The best way to avoid viruses and spyware is to take steps to prevent or remove viruses or spyware before they become problems.
There is free antivirus and spyware software that you can download from the Internet. I recommend AVG Free and Avast for antivirus and Spybot and Adaware SE for spyware removal programs. All programs are free for home users.
Note that antivirus and spyware programs need to be updated to function properly. This seems to be a problem for some computer users, although most programs make updating as easy as possible.
You need to look at your computer like your car. Neither of these will work forever unless you do regular maintenance.
