Antenatal Routine Care Checkup

You will be offered a variety of tests during your pregnancy, including blood tests and ultrasounds. The purpose of this test is to check what problems can arise during pregnancy or after delivery.

You should discuss this with your maternity team and receive written information about which screening tests are offered. It is very important to know about the prenatal care services that are being offered by maternity hospitals. You can read this article to know what is included in the antenatal care checkup.

Ultrasound examination

You will be offered various ultrasound scans during your pregnancy. This includes a dating scan to confirm your date, an olfactory penetrating scan to determine the risk of chromosomal abnormalities in your baby, and an abnormal scan which is a detailed ultrasound scan for you and your baby.

Weight and height

You will be weighed at the time of appointment, but not regularly during pregnancy. Your height and weight are used to calculate your BMI (Body Mass Index). Women who are overweight are at a higher risk of having problems during pregnancy.

Urine

You will be asked to provide a urine sample for your prenatal appointment. Your urine will be checked for several things, including protein or albumin. If it's found in your urine, it may mean you have an infection that requires treatment.
